Can You Hear Me Mutha?

A 8 track leftfield/idm album (46m 59s) — released October 15th 2012 on STEEL TIGER RECORDS

Hey, Rube! is Stephen Mallinder, once of Cabaret Voltaire, embraced in a sonic clinch with Steve Cobby - the Solid Doctor, the J*S*T*A*R, the Fila Brazillian.

'Can You Hear Me Mutha?' the result of this coming together of musical miscreants is a veritable festival of frequencies. A selection of tracks recorded over a period of 4-years each one captures the changing state of their oddball nation - no two tracks sound remotely alike - a pair in constant flux. Always on the move, like a shark in search of prey, the album finds a comfy spot then moves on again. Laugh, cry, dance, check your ears for bits of metal ... But whatever you do don't keep looking at the cover. Children, American singer-songwriters, and those of a nervous disposition have been warned!!

Founder-member of pioneering electronic act Cabaret Voltaire, Mallinder has worked with numerous artists and producers including Afrika Bambaataa, John Robie, Adrian Sherwood and Marshall Jefferson. A commentator on electronic music, he's worked in broadcasting/ journalism - most recently 2012 Sheffield International Documentary Festival. Based in Brighton, Stephen re-issued the Ku-Ling Bros recordings (dTone Music) which debuted at No 1 on eMusic USA, and forms Wrangler with two members of Tunng.

Cobby is a musician, composer, producer, and DJ - best known for Fila Brazillia, J*S*T*A*R*S (Sim Lister), Heights of Abraham (Sim Lister/Jake Harries), and The Solid Doctor. Steve's production, co-production/remix projects include Radiohead; Afghan Whigs and The Twilight Singers . He and Porky just released their second The Cutler album to great praise; and Cobby's deep-house project with DJ Adam Regan of Different Drummer - Chieftain - its debut EP.

Cobby says, "Co-founder of one of the most important electronic music acts in history. Fellow white rose. Owl to my tiger. Doctor with a superlative overview on the regional, national and international zeitgeist. A cultural and political analyst of the highest calibre and an outstanding social commentator. Musical hero that became a best mate. PH, not V. "Malcolm"."

Mallinder says, "Steve Cobby .....the Saint Francis of dub. Electronic eco-avenger and laptop ninja - the gentleman can squeeze the last drop of juice from any sonic pip he finds in the fruitbowl. An innate sense of righteousness from what pours out of the speakers and out of the speechifiers. A true regal rocker never fails to hit the spot with any release......everyone a Maserati! FANGIO!"
